IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) has made it mandatory for individuals to link existing Insurance policies with Aadhaar as well as quoting it for buying a new insurance policy (life/non-life insurance).
IRDA Circular[1] -
“Central Government vide gazette notification dated 1st June 2017 notified the Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017 making Aaadhar and PAN/Form 60 mandatory for availing financial services including insurance and also for linking the existing policies with the same.
The Authority clarifies that linkage of Aadhaar number to insurance Policies is mandatory for the prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules,2017
These Rules have statutory force and, as such, Life and General insurers (including Standalone Health insurers) have to implement them without awaiting further instructions.”
If you don’t have PAN card, then you have to declare the same in Form 60.
Step 1 - Go to LIC website for linking Aadhaar. Here you will find the steps to link aadhar, which are also mentioned in the below image.
Step 2 - Click on Proceed below the steps to provide details for linking. In case you have multiple LIC policies, no need to add them separately; you can add all of them at once.
Step 3 - After you submit the request, you will get acknowledgement screen. You will also receive SMS/mail after few days once the verification is done.
In case you are not able to do it online, you can go to your nearest LIC center and link your policy offline. Currently, there is no way to link it through SMS/IVR.
