Those who have not linked Aadhaar card to PAN or don't know whether it is linked or don't know how to link Aadhaar card to PAN, this post is for them.
Why should you link you Aadhaar no to PAN?
Finance Bill 2017 was passed in Lok Sabha in March 2017 which introduced several amendments. One of the amendments involve linking of Aadhaar card to PAN. If you won't do it before 1st July 2017, then you PAN will become invalid. This means an individual having multiple PAN cards can no more cheat on tax as only one PAN can be linked to Aadhaar.Who all can Link ?
Person should have same name in PAN card and Aadhaar card. If there is a minor mismatch then you will be verified through OTP. For major difference you need to correct details either in PAN card or Aadhaar card. If you are going to rectify details in PAN card then new form already has a section to enter Aadhaar no.Last year, if you had verified ITR using Aadhaar than you can check your status.
How to check if it is linked or not ?
Step 1Register yourself to Income Tax Filling portal. If already registered than login to "https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/"
Step 2
After login go to Profile Settings --> Link Aadhaar.
Step 3
If you get below message than your Aadhaar is linked else you need to link.
Step 4
If it is not linked then enter your Aadhaar no, Captcha and submit.
Wait for confirmation. It will be linked.
How can you link without log-in?
Method 1
Go to the link "Link Aadhaar". Fill details on the page and wait for confirmation. If you get an error then retry submitting.
Method 2
You can link using SMS facility also.
Special Note
If you are going to file your ITR for FY 2016-17 before 1st July 2017 then you can do it without Aadhaar card, post 1st July 2017 you may face problems. If you don't have Aadhaar then apply now.
